First Look At Dennis Quaid As Ronald Reagan.

From releases like Ray, Ali, and The Iron Lady, the biographical picture (or biopic) are getting numerous enough to be grouped into a sub-genre of it’s own. And it seems like coming up later this year, Ronald Reagan is about to get the biopic treatment.

Based on the book The Crusader: Ronald Reagan and the Fall of Communism by Paul Kengor, the film is reported to follow the 40th President’s life from boyhood, to Hollywood star, to California governor, to the White House. Currently reigning (by popular vote,) as the greatest American, scenes from his biography may shed light into what leads to Reagan’s historical significance.

Dennis Quaid will play Reagan, in a role that finds him sculpting the unique Reagan look quite accurately. His ability to capture the other aspects of Reagan’s personality, will have to be determined later.

Quaid is joined with a cast of seasoned actors, including; Penelope Ann Miller (The Artist; Kindergarten Cop) as Nancy Reagan, Nick Searcy (Justified, Goznell) as James Baker, Jon Voight (Deliverance, Heat) as Viktor Petrovich, and Mena Suvari (American Beauty, American Pie) as Jane Wyman, Reagan’s first wife.

Dennis Quaid (Center) As Ronald Reagan

This is not the first time the 40th President has been portrayed on the screen. A short-lived TV show (The Reagans), was controversial with historians and Reagan fans. Fred Ward also portrayed him in the cold war film, Farewell.

This portrayal however, seems to promise a more intimate portrayal than before.

Behind the scenes, Sean McNamara (Soul Surfer, The Miracle Season) will direct off a screenplay written by Howard Klausner(Weird Science, Space Cowboys), and Jonas McCord(The Dirty Dozen, Earth: Final Conflict). The film’s 2022 release was set, after a 2021 release was postponed.
