Recently, Angel Studios and Shining Isle Productions released the official teaser for the third season of “The Wingfeather Saga.” The teaser revealed that the next installment, entitled “The Ice Prairies,” will premiere this fall on Angel’s streaming platform. The series is based on the popular books of the same name written by singer/writer Andrew Peterson. Season 3 will follow events that occur in the second half of the book “North! Or Be Eaten.”
The teaser gave a glimpse into the further adventures of the Igiby family, specifically their flight thru the frigid wilds to the refuge city of Kimera. It also introduced the new, wolf-like Fangs of Dang, as well as some of Aerwiar’s more dangerous creatures (bomnubbles and snickbuzzards). In an interview with Family Theater Productions, producer Chris Wall said, “Season 3 is loaded. We’re going into this perilous ice environment with one of the saga’s biggest battle sequences.” Wall likened it to having “’Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back’vibes.”

Although not mentioned in the teaser, season 3 will introduce a new antagonist voiced by actor David Oyelowo. He’s gained fame from roles like Martin Luther King Jr. in the movie “Selma” and Agent Kallus in “Star Wars: Rebels.” When considering who to cast for this character, Wall mentioned he could “just hear” Oyelowo’s voice. Wall reached out and Oyelowo was more than happy to oblige. “He was all in and gave us a thrilling performance,” Wall said.

“The Wingfeather Saga” has recently gained attention from Kidscreen, the leading international trade publication that serves kid’s entertainment professionals. The show was nominated last November at the Kidscreen Awards for Best Web/App Series Original. It was praised at the Kidscreen Summit in San Diego for “feeling like a global show, rather than an American cartoon.” Lion Forge Entertainment will be distributing the show in both France and South Korea.
